Cowra High School (Lift Pit)

Cowra High School is a comprehensive rural school with an enrolment of 540 students, including approximately 20% Aboriginal students.

The Project‍

Premier Waterproofing conducted an initial targeted site inspection of a ‘leaking’ lift pit installed in the Cowra High School grounds.

According to the Building Code of Australia, all lifts must be designed and constructed to prevent water from accumulating in the pit. This is an essential safety regulation that necessitates adequate draining systems, waterproofing materials and techniques.

To ensure the safety of Cowra High’s lift, the Premier team undertook extensive preparation of the walls and floor of the lift shaft. This was completed from the negative side (i.e. waterproofing materials were applied to the inside of the pit as the outside was inaccessible); a labour intensive process that used a range of products to effectively stop water entry.

Upon completing these works, a chemical resistant epoxy coating was applied to the lift floor to increase the longevity of waterproofing products and provide a safe, compliant surface for ongoing lift maintenance work.

Once the lift waterproofing was complete, the Premier team’s remit was expanded to include a broader range of internal and external waterproofing and remedial building services at Cowra High School.
